  1.  Age Requirement

The Gonzaga Jesuit College prefers that our Basic 7 (JSS1) students be 12 years old or near it (see Nigeria’s National Policy on Education). The educational system in Nigeria is structured according to this requirement. GJC aims to instill leadership qualities in all our students and to encourage responsible decision-making and independence of thought and action. GJC students are expected to be assertive, care for themselves, speak-up for themselves and others, take initiatives as well as possess other personal and interpersonal skills that would help them thrive independently among their peers and supervising staff in a boarding school environment, away from their families. Every GJC student is expected to be mature enough to fit well into each level of the six-year program in order to draw maximum fruits from the various aspects of the curriculum of the College.

Thus, candidates (boys and girls) who wish to enter JSS1 next year should preferably be 12 years old or close to it in the first term of their Basic 7 (JSS 1). If it is discovered at a later time that a student’s age had been falsified at the time of admission into the College, such a student may be dismissed.

On the entrance examination day

  1. Candidates who are late will NOT be given any extra time. They will stop work at the same time as the others.
  1. Candidates will be admitted into the examination hall with their examination ticket, HB pencil, eraser, sharpener, and water bottle ONLY. (Candidates who do not have their tickets/slips will NOT be admitted into the examination hall).
  2. Candidates will take a short break inside the examination hall before commencing the second paper.
  3. Parents and guardians should ensure that they are present at the examination venue to pick up their wards at 12.45pm.
